Our Sexy Spotlight is literally on the frontline of healthcare. Her name is Chynna Townsend and she has been a registered nurse for the past 15 years with a specialty in Cardio-Thoracic Critical Care. She has also worked Medical-Surgical and Cardiac Telemetry. However, she is currently working in the COVID-19 Drive Up Testing Clinic at U.I.C. Chynna has graciously answered a couple of questions, so that we can get to know who’s under the protective gear. She puts her life on the line to save all of ours.

Where did you study?

I have an associates degree in Nursing from Gateway College in my home state of Connecticut, and a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Saint Xavier University in Chicago.

Why did you choose this profession?

I have always wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl. Being able to play a major role in saving lives, being a support system, as well as a trusting hand to the sick and the well is very rewarding and humbling.

If there is anything you would change about your industry, what would it be?

One of the things I would change about my industry is the Nurse to patient ratio. Nurses can be spread so thin that it can be difficult at times to provide your best to each and every patient. You try your hardest, but lack of resources and support can cause burnout.

How do you like to unwind on your days off?

On my days off I like to watch NBA Basketball during the season, or go to a live game. I absolutely love to travel, binge watch reality television, eat really good food, and enjoy a nice cocktail every now and then with friends.

Is COVID-19 the scariest epidemic you have seen as a nurse?

Working this pandemic has really been an eye opener. I have seen and experienced a lot in my nursing career, but being on the frontline, looking this virus in the face everyday amongst so many people especially in our community has been one of the scariest yet rewarding things I’ve ever experienced. Knowing I’m doing my part so that WE as a people can WIN and LIVE is the most fulfilling part of my journey.

I want to thank Chynna, and all of our healthcare professionals for going above and beyond your call of duty to create balance and stability during the unknown. You truly are the backbone of the hospitals. While displaying an intuitive sense of ethics and compassion for your patients. You are the real heroes of this pandemic and your services are invaluable. There is nothing sexier than confident women saving lives.
